It’s easy to forget that beauty and brains can co-exist in one
individual.
No wonder everyone who hears about it is surprised that Katrina Kaif can actually write very well and has penned what is finally going to appear as New York Diaries.
These diary entries contain her thoughts, observations and memories jotted down during the shooting of her film in Philadelphia. What started off as just random jottings has now shaped into a fine chronicle of a heart that beats for its art.
Initially, Katrina’s thoughts were meant to be serialised in a newspaper. But now, her producers have decided that her writing is too precious to be part of a daily. So, Katrina’s writings on New York will now appear in the form of a book.
Says her New York director Kabir Khan, “Katrina surprised me with her writing talent.”
But, Katrina is hesitant to acknowledge that her writings possess any literary value. “I like to write. It gives me a perspective on me and the world around me. We’re now looking for the correct pictures to illustrate the specific images in my diary entries.”
We also hear that Katrina is also secretly penning a script for herself. Earlier, it was Lara Dutta who wrote a script for herself.
Why Simi Garewal's role was cut out in 'Short Kut'?
June 27 (IANS) Arshad Warsi was excited about his 'Rendezvous with Simi Garewal' in forthcoming film 'Short Kut - The Con', but he was disappointed when the entire sequence was chopped off from the final cut.
'It's unfortunate but we had to let go of the sequence. This was done to keep the film's length in check. We wanted the film to be as close to the two-hour running length as possible. The film is now two hours and seven minutes and we didn't want to exceed it any further,' Anil Kapoor, the producer of 'Short Kut', told IANS.
The comedy has been directed by Neeraj Vora and is set to release July 10.
If the scene would have been retained, Simi would have made a comeback on the big screen after over two decades. She was last seen in her directorial debut 'Rukhsat' (1988) where she had Mithun Chakraborty and Anuradha Patel for company.
'The scene had turned out quite well actually,' said Arshad, who was expecting his 'rendezvous' with the graceful actress to be a hit among audiences.
'It was shot just like the way her shows are done with the white colour sets all intact. I had to act as this superstar actor Raju (the character which I play in the film) who gets this opportunity to make an appearance on her show.
'So there she is all sophisticated and elegant, while I behave as this cool star wearing those fancy, colourful and over the top clothes. The dialogues are really funny too as I start blabbering all that nonsense around how big
a fan I am of hers,' added Arshad.
Couldn't the scene have been retained?
'Well, some things can't be helped,' said Anil. 'Sometimes to make things perfect, you have to sacrifice some good things as well. Unfortunately, the Simi sequence is one of those good things.'
But the entire 'rendezvous' sequence has been retained to make it to the 'deleted scenes' section in the film's DVD and hence can be seen on the small screen.
'Yes, it will be there in the DVD. We can't let go off such a nice scene. It would make a good inclusion in the DVD and her fans won't be cheated,' said Anil.
Arshad added: 'Why just this scene -- there are so many other scenes that have turned out to be really marvellous but can't make it to the theatrical version. I'm sure if put together in a second DVD, they could all make for an altogether separate movie by itself.'
'Short Kut' also stars Akshaye Khanna and Amrita Rao, while Anil and Sanjay Dutt make special appearances for an item number.
I see part of myself in Kareena: Raveena Tandon
She is known to be outspoken. National Award winning actress Raveena Tandon makes no bones about naming her favourite actress in the new brigade, saying she likes Kareena Kapoor in whom she sees a part of herself.
“Among the new actresses I see not a reflection but a part of me in Kareena. She has a very strong, distinct and vibrant persona. She is electric and has an amazing screen presence unlike most actresses today,” Raveena told reporters.
“A lot of female actors are short nowadays. I like taller girls. Kareena`s height is good. This is what actresses should be like,” said Raveena, known for films like ‘Mohra’ and ‘Andaz Apna Apna’.
Raveena, who debuted with the 1991 movie ‘Patthar Ke Phool’, was considered among the most ravishing actresses of her time. But after tying the knot with distributor Anil Thadani in 2004, she bid adieu to movies to concentrate on her family.
She came back to limelight last year as a judge on kids` song and dance TV reality show “Chak De Bachche” and now she is judging another kids` comedy show “Miyan - Chapter 2″ on Colors.
Being a mother of two - four-year-old Rasha and nearly two-year-old Ranbir - Raveena says she has an instant connect with children and that is why she associates herself with children`s shows.
“I do approve of shows which deal with kids simply because they are very uncomplicated. With them, nothing is made up, there are no controversies and the best part is that only true talent carries the show on its shoulders,” she said.
As a judge, the actress doesn`t like being a strict teacher on the show.
“I want to be like a second parent to kids on the show. It doesn`t make sense to sit them down and discourage kids if they don`t perform well. I would rather explain things nicely. I cannot break anyone`s heart. Besides, I also believe that the role of a judge on a kids` reality show is to make them blossom in their craft,” said the 34-year-old actress.
Apart from the show, Raveena will also soon be seen in Revathy Verma`s film “Chassni” alongside Jaya Bachchan.
As of now, Raveena is enjoying her vacation full throttle - not only because she is with her husband and children but also since it has helped her lose “two pounds ” without making an extra effort.
“I love this holiday. My kids have been just moving around and Anil and I are just running after them. We went to Disneyland in Hong Kong recently where they sat in strollers and made me move them around. So I have happily lost almost two pounds,” she said in an excited tone.

Akshay might sue over Shilpa sex stories
Bollywood star Akshay Kumar may sue a UK tabloid for slander against Shilpa Shetty and giving personal details of her past relationship with him.
After winning ‘Big Brother’ in the UK, the British media have suddenly taken a keen interest in Shilpa and her life and there have been several stories and articles published by various tabloids in the UK on her.
Some sleazy tabloids have chronicled the personal details of Shilpa’s life. Recently the various legal controversies that Shilpa and her parents have been surrounded in were written about.
But a few days ago, a UK tabloid Newsoftheworld stooped to the lowest level, giving personal details of Shilpa’s past relationship with ex-boyfriend Akshay.
Although Shilpa has decided to keep a dignified silence on the issue, Akshay has decided to sue the tabloid.
Akshay is livid because the UK tabloid claims that he has given inside information about Shilpa and his past relationship.
The paper quotes a friend of the actor with whom he supposedly shared the stories as saying “I was the first to bed Shilpa” and “She made me wait before she let me sleep with her.”
The tabloid further goes on to give explicit details of Akshay and Shilpa’s personal relationship together.
Akshay though is disgusted with the UK tabloid’s article and says “I will never talk about a lady in those terms, this is totally baseless, I’ve never spoken to the said newspaper and I will seek legal recourse.”
Although Akshay is all set to take legal action against the tabloid and protect his ex-girlfriend’s reputation, Shilpa is adopting a different tactic, she says “I know that Akshay would never speak like that and these things are best laughed off.”

My Mum didn't like me in bikini: Kareena Kapoor
Mum is the word for Kareena Kapoor and the actress would go to any length to keep her mother happy. So she has decided to stay away from bikini scenes as her mother, yesteryear heroine Babita, didn't like her in a two-piece suit in 'Tashan'.
"No more bikini shots for me. I mean I'm very happy with the kind of attention and adulation I got for getting into a bikini in 'Tashan'. And I wasn't uncomfortable wearing it. Why should I be? I've the physique to carry it off. But that's it.
"My mother didn't like me in a bikini. Also the kind of work that I'm doing now in '3 Idiots' or Rensil D'Silva's film doesn't require that kind of exposure," Kareena told us.
With Kareena being extremely busy with her career and beau Saif Ali Khan, mom Babita has a lot of time on hand.
"She now does a lot of charity work with charitable institutions like the Mount Mary Old Age Home in Bandra and other places. She's a very giving woman. I should know. She sacrificed her own career and joys to bring up my sister and me," said the actress.
Not too many people know that Babita is half Christian.
"Her mother was a Christian and father a Sindhi. So we are as fond of the church as we're of the temple. Christmas is a big event for us," said Kareena.
Surprisingly, the actress is full of praise for her supposed archrival Priyanka Chopra.
"I don't know why so much is made of our rivalry. We're in totally different spaces. She does her own films. I do mine. Whenever we meet, she's really sweet to me. I don't understand why we're made out to be two squabbling sirens. Please, we're grown up women," said Kareena who has also kissed and made up with Aishwarya Rai.
As far as conducting a career goes, Kareena's role model is Aishwarya.
"I love the way she carries herself and the roles she's choosing after marriage. I'd like to follow that pattern when I get married," she said.
But that's a long way off. At the moment Kareena is just happy being with Saif.
14th victim: 20-year old Delhi boy attacked in Australia
A 20-year old Delhi boy became the 14th victim of assault in Australia in less than a month when he was punched and abused in Melbourne, leaving him with a fractured finger and a bloody nose.
A Deakin University student, Sunny Bajaj was attacked by two men in Melbourne's eastern suburb on Friday night as he was about to get into his car, he said.
"They came up to me and asked me for money, I told them I had none and then they attacked me," Bajaj said.
Bajaj was verbally abused and then punched by the two men, in their 20s – one white and the other apparently of African descent.
The student, who hails from New Delhi, said they slammed his car door and punched him in head and stomach and then racially abused him.
"They called me a ----ing Indian c--- why would they do that? I said nothing to them," Bajaj said, adding he suffered a fractured finger, bruising to his back and a bloody nose. Bajaj, who was supposed to sit for an Accounts exam, had to miss out on it because of the broken finger.
As the police investigate the case, the latest victim of a series of violent attacks in Melbourne, however, refused to dub it as one with 'a racial motive' as the attackers’ first purpose was to rob him.
"I won't call it a racial attack as they first asked me money and when I told them that I don't have it they started bashing me and started calling me you f...Indians," he said, adding that the attackers were apparently drug addicts.

With former Haryana deputy chief minister Chand Mohammad once again courting his estranged wife Fiza, Islamic clerics are unlikely to come in the way of their reunion. Leading Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband on Monday said Chandra Mohan alias Chand Mohammad, who on Sunday returned to Fiza and apologised for "past mistakes", can live with her if the word 'Talaq' has not been uttered thrice. "In case Chand has not uttered word 'Talaq' thrice, he can still live with Fiza as her husband," said Mufti Ahsan Kasmi, Deputy inchrge of seminary's Fatwa Department.
The cleric said as per the Islamic laws, a divorce can only be completed when the husband says it three times. 45-year-old Chand, who had declared publicly that he had divorced Fiza, formerly Anuradha Bali, a lawyer and former Haryana Additional Advocate General, on Sunday said he had pronounced 'Talaq' only twice and not thrice.
He said Fiza, 38, was still his wife and he "loves her more than before" and had apologised for his "mistake". Another cleric of the seminary, Maulana Abdul Latif cautioned Chand and Fiza to be careful before taking any decision saying they should not flout religious laws. Fiza has said she is yet to decide on Chand's proposal.

Bollywood stars Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan are in the race to bag the best actor award at the AXN Action Awards.
While Aamir has been nominated for ‘Ghajini’, Akshay is in contention for ‘Tashan’ and Hrithik for ‘Jodhaa Akbar’.

While maintaining that no big deal should 
be made out of an onscreen kiss, Hrithik Roshan did admit that it was his Mexican co-star Barbara Mori who asked him to kiss her on the lips in a scene in Kites .
There is a sequence in ‘Kites’ where the characters played by Hrithik and Barbara jump from a building. Director Anurag Basu decided to include a kiss between the two before they do the stunt. Though Hrithik gave Barbara a peck on her cheek, she asked for a smooch. But there was a reason behind it.
“We were both supposed to jump off from a rooftop at an impossible height. Before we did so our director Anurag Basu suggested to kiss Barbara, since we were doing something death-defying and dangerous and potentially lethal. I reached out and kissed her on the cheeks,” Hrithik is quoted as saying in a news report.
However, Barbara thought a peck on the cheeks would not look good enough in the scene.
“Barbara turned around to ask why I had kissed her on the cheek. ‘Given the same situation with your real-life wife, Suzanne, would you kiss her on the cheek?’ I was floored by her logic,” said Hrithik.
Then Hrithik did what was right. He kissed her on the lips.
“And this time I kissed her the way real-life couples would in the situation. On the lips,” said Hrithik.
Hrithik added that the kissing scene was done so tastefully, that he could watch it with his family and parents.
“In fact, I’d be more than happy and completely comfortable watching those kissing scenes with my wife, son and parents when the film is released,” Hrithik said.
Kareena Kapoor Back In IIFA Award
Kareena Kapoor was all geared up to attend this year's IIFA, but at the last moment she backed out! Reason? She wanted to spend some time with beau Saif Ali Khan. And the 'real' reason? Well, Bachchans were preferred over Bebo at the awards function.
